Alton Towers Resort: Staffordshire's Iconic Theme Park

Alton Towers Resort stands as Britain's largest theme park, covering over 500 acres in the Staffordshire countryside. The park features world-class roller coasters like Nemesis Reborn and The Smiler, family attractions including the UK's only CBeebies Land, and seasonal events that draw visitors throughout the year.

Famous Roller Coasters: Nemesis, Nemesis Reborn, and The Smiler

Alton Towers has built its reputation on delivering extreme thrills through some of the UK's most intense roller coasters. The Smiler holds the world record with 14 inversions, making it a must-ride for thrill seekers who want to test their limits.

Nemesis operated from 1994 to 2022 as one of the park's most beloved attractions. The ride reopened in 2024 as Nemesis Reborn, featuring updated theming while keeping the intense inverted coaster experience that made the original famous. The track sits in a pit that makes riders feel like they're diving into the ground.

Other major coasters include Wicker Man, a wooden roller coaster with fire effects, and Oblivion, which features a vertical drop into darkness. These rides have helped Alton Towers become a top destination for coaster fans across Europe.

CBeebies Land and Family-Friendly Rides

CBeebies Land opened in 2014 as the UK's only theme park area dedicated to CBeebies characters. Young visitors can meet characters from popular shows and enjoy rides designed specifically for children under age six. The area features attractions based on programs like Go Jetters, Hey Duggee, and Postman Pat.

Gangsta Granny: The Ride offers family-friendly thrills based on the David Walliams book. The park provides attractions for all age groups, with designated areas that cater to younger children who aren't tall enough for the major roller coasters. Children under 90cm tall receive free admission to the park.

Seasonal Events and Entertainment

Alton Towers hosts seasonal events that change throughout the year. The resort runs Christmas celebrations from late November through early January, featuring festive decorations and special activities. Santa Sleepovers allow families to stay overnight during the holiday season with themed accommodation packages.

The park typically opens at 10am, but hours vary by season and special events. Short break packages include breakfast, free parking, and access to Extraordinary Golf. Visitors can extend their stay at one of three themed hotels, Stargazing Pods, or the Enchanted Village accommodation options located on the 500-acre property.
